WEATHER

Cantick Head - Having lived on Hoy since December 5th 2002, I have to say the climate is in general terms milder than mainland UK i.e. warmer in winter and cooler in summer. I lived in Lincolnshire, worked in London and have also found the Island's rainfall to be much less than those areas; in these parts there is a local saying "if you don't like the weather wait 20 minutes", which I have found to be quite true.

I had to go back to London, 2 panic attacks later (one in M&S, one on the tube) arrived home safely and realised I don't have to look upward to see the sky...

February

Spent lots of time investigating the island. The winter has been very mild and surprisingly warmer than down South

January

Not so quiet over New Year or Hogmanay as celebrated up here, the festivities lasted for at least a week.

Cantick Head 2002

December 10th

Took Charlie, my dog, for a walk and found a seal on the rocks below the Lighthouse...

December 6th

New owner moved in!!

Furniture and packing cases everywhere but could not find a camera to record the chaos!!

September 6th

Saw Cantick Head for the first time and fell in love with the Lighthouse, Cottages and the Island of Hoy. The Cottages need a lot of work, the house even more, but there are lots of original Victorian features and so much potential. Two and a half years searching for the "right" property is finally over...
