Longhope is the largest settlement on the Island and the pier is home to our new Tamar Lifeboat "The Helen Comrie"
Also by the pier is the local Post Office and Licensed General Store "J M F Groat & Son", open 9-12:30 & 2-6pm Monday to Saturday, major cards accepted and cash can be withdrawn at the Post Office. Groat's stock a wide variety of general provisions, fresh local produce, toiletry items and a good selection of beers, wines & spirits; newspaper orders and advance shopping lists are accepted by Email or Fax 01856 701251 - please advise your name holiday address and date of arrival.
Across from the pier is The Royal Hotel offering a traditional Pub atmosphere with open fire, pool table and dart board. The Royal is generally open from 11:30-2:30 and 5-midnight Monday to Thursday, 11:30 to 1am Friday & Saturday and 12:30-Midnight on Sunday. Just past the War Memorial on a Thursday evening from 4-7 you will find a mobile Fish & Chip wagon. Along the coast road on the right is the Medical Centre, a little further along is St Columba's Church and on the left is the "YM" our Community Centre where bingo, quiz nights, music and dances lively up a Friday or Saturday night.
Up the hill, from the Fire Station, and left toward Cantick Head is The Stromabank Hotel Bar & Restaurant offering evening meals and Sunday lunch; Stromabank's conservatory has fabulous views of the south Isles and across the sea to mainland Scotland.
