The Assistant Lightkeeper's Cottage provides year round holiday accommodation ideal for 1 or 2 singles, a couple or small family of three including a child over 12 years of age. Restored and renovated to a very high standard, the Cottage provides the modern facilities and comforts associated with 21st century living yet retains many original Victorian features such as high ceilings, cornice, panelled doors and working shutters.

The lounge diner offers extensive sea views, elegantly decorated and furnished it provides dining table & chairs, a comfortable sofa and chair together with feature electric log burning stove, occasional furniture, TV, Digital Freeview, DVD, VCR and CD/Radio stereo system. The kitchen also has a sea view, small yet well appointed it provides convection oven, slow cooker & ceramic hob, fridge with ice compartment (freezer space available), microwave, cafetiere, kettle, toaster and quality cookware, china, glass and cutlery. Basic culinary items are provided by way of dried herbs & spices, cling film, cooking foil, kitchen paper, washing up & cleaning products. 

There are a variety of board games, playing cards and reading material in the Cottage together with a broad selection of CD's and videos to suit a variety of tastes. There are several seating areas in the garden and the old Paraffin Store provides many extras to make your holiday more enjoyable such as a barbecue, wind breaks, cool bags and flasks.

The spacious master bedroom is very private with hill views to the rear and is tastefully decorated with wardrobe, comfy chair and 5' King size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets; the second bedroom is also to the rear and offers a sitting area with standard single bed. Quality bed linen, pillows, hot water bottles, hairdryer, portable TV/VCR and Radio/CD player are provided.

The bathroom is fully modernised and offers a 'wet room' style walk in shower with a choice of 2 showers, low level wc, pedestal basin, shaver point (240/110) and plenty of space for personal toiletry items; quality towels, complimentary shower caps and a toilet roll per person are supplied. The Bothy provides laundry facilities with indoor drying, a service wash is available at a nominal charge.

Sea angling is a common pastime from the cliffs around the Lighthouse and Trout fishing is available at Heldale Water, licenses or permits are not required. Cantick Head's position at the end of a private, unadopted road provides an excellent walking and cycling environment; whether beachcombing for shells and driftwood or just gazing at the sea you will rarely be disturbed.

Professional guided tours of Hoy, the Hills and 9,700 acre RSPB reserve are available on the Island along with boating, diving and fishing trips.

PLEASE NOTE:

Rates are quoted per cottage inclusive electricity, heating, hot water, bed linen & towels.

Cantick Head Lighthouse Cottages are not suitable for children under 12 years of age.

Due to the fragile environment, ground nesting birds, grazing sheep and consideration for other guests we are unable to accept pets.

Whereas the right of an adult to smoke is acknowledged, smoking in the bedrooms is strictly prohibited; smokers are requested to do so outdoors when possible.

Terms & Conditions of Booking

The Assistant Lightkeeper's Cottage may be reserved by email using the Availability link below. The let or term is from 5 p.m. on the day of arrival until 10 a.m. on the day of departure and is restricted to the number of persons declared per the booking form being a maximum of 3 in a double and single bed.

Upon receipt of the deposit (£125 per week, £75 per mini break) the Cottage will be formally booked, the deposit is non refundable unless there are extreme circumstances supported by legal documentation. The balance of the letting value must be paid in full 28 days prior to arrival; reservations made within the 28 day arrival period must be paid in full at the time of booking. Payments can be made direct to the Proprietor by UK£ cheque, BACS, Direct transfer and Internet banking or PayPal+3% transaction fee.
